Having a website is one thing, making sure that you can be found through active searches is another. Showing up on page 1 of organic search results will bring more traffic to your website and give you the chance to earn more business. When I refer to organic search, I am referring to a natural search that is an unpaid search result.
What that looks like is this:
Person at home on their desktop at 9:30 at night looking for the best Calgary carwash for tomorrow.
Search term: Calgary’s best carwash south east
Results: Calgary Car Wash, The Wash King, Top Gear Carwash, Great White Wash.
They all showed up on the first page, and before I had to scroll. That is exactly where you want to be. Somewhere on that first page, and before the scroll down. Because then you might have lost me – you want to grab people’s attention before they start to scroll.
There are some steps that you can take to optimize your website for organic searches.
This is the way to show up like above:
– Page 1 of search results
– Before the scroll (or above the fold).
Research, research, research
This is such an important part of any keyword strategy. You need to know what people are searching for, who is showing up, and can you solve the problem with your current content. I use a few different things to come up with a strong organic SEO strategy.
The first one is Keywords Everywhere. It is a google Chrome extension and gives you information about search words or terms. There are a lot of benefits, but the main ones I use it for is the time it saves, and the additional suggestions it gives me.
The second step to research is to check your analytics, or your google ads account (if you have one) and see what people are currently using as a search term to find you. This is a manual process, but you can find my worksheet here. Simply download it and start your research today. Nothing fancy, but it gets the job done.
Use that Research to Create Amazing Content
Now that you know what words or phrases people are going to use to search for your product or service, you can create amazing content the relates to those words.
This might look like something like this:
– The best Calgary carwash
– What time of day do I wash my car
– Carwash that cleans
– Spotless carwash
– Best carwash reviews
Now you can make sure that the content on your website answers those questions.
What happens when you do all of those things is that google thinks that your users are having a great website experience (because the search term matches what is actually on your website). And then they will show your website more and more to more and more prospective customers.
Google cares about it’s customers, and if you show them a great experience then google will reward you by showing you more and more. That gives you the opportunity to be in front of more prospective customers, and earn more business.
